Ko Patanga Te Tamaiti

Written and presented by Rānui Ngārimu

Kupu:

Ko Patanga te tamaiti,
nā Tāwharanui nā Tane e
Hirihiri! Maranga e! Tiketike
i roto i te ngahere
Homai ngā rau, ngā pakiaka
Hei kākahu
Hei kīnaki e
Homai ngā rau

E kiekie e
Hei kawehuri
Hei takapau e

Ko Tāwhara
Te kai papai
Ka taka pea te Kererū e
Whakaratoa te Wētā e
Ki te kāinga
E kiekie e
Ki te kāinga e kiekie e

Translation:

Patanga is the child of Tāwharanui and Tāne
Reaching for the top heights within the forest
Give the leaves and the roots
for garments and fish traps
Give the leaves of the Kiekie
for backstraps and the fine mats
The sweet taste of Tāwhara may cause the Kererū to fall
Kiekie share their living space with Wētā
