He Wānaka Oriori

The team from Hākui www.hakui.nz welcome you to join us to learn, craft and waiata oriori –  our traditional waiata relating to pregnancy, birthing and pēpi. This wānaka is for wāhine, tāne, Tāua, Pōua, mātua, pakeke all members of your whānau.

It will be run over two days – you can attend one or both days.

*Please come to the whole day, not parts of both.*

Please bring: 

  • Kai to share for lunch

  • Pen & paper /notebook

  • Waiata lyrics from your whānau (optional)
     

The HĀKUI kaupapa is to support the revival of our customary birthing practices for Kāi Tahu whānau and to provide resources for our Kāi Tahu midwives and their community. 

This wānaka will be facilitated by Ariana Tikao (Singer/Composer) with support from Karuna Thurlow (Kaiako/Mātaka Reo).

You are very welcome to bring your tamariki, however, there will be no childcare available on site and this venue is situated on the beachfront at North Beach.
