He Wānaka Taoka Puoro

The team at Hākui www.hakui.nz welcome you to join us to learn the art, craft and playing of taoka puoro –  our traditional Māori musical instruments and their role in pregnancy, birthing and pēpi. This wānaka is for wāhine, tāne, Tāua, Pōua, mātua, pakeke and all members of your whānau alongside our amazing kaiwhakawhānau/tapuhi.

The HĀKUI kaupapa is to support the revival of our customary birthing practices for Kāi Tahu whānau and provide resources for our Kāi Tahu midwives and their community. 

This wānaka will be facilitated by leading taoka puoro practitioners: Ariana Tikao, Mahina-ina Kingi-Kaui and Tony Smith.

You are very welcome to bring your tamariki, however, there will be no childcare available on site and this venue is situated on the beachfront at North Beach.
